How it all began

Just over 12 years ago, our journey began with a simple but revolutionary idea. Teenager Jon wanted a scooter or a cool moped so he could cruise around in style. His father, environmentally conscious engineer Knut Späte, however, didn’t want to finance a gas-guzzling, noisy machine. He thought there must surely be a modern, clean and quiet alternative. When he realized nothing like that existed, he decided to develop a solution himself. That’s how YouMo was born, and the concept of e-cruising was brought to life.

How YouMo took over Go SwissDrive supply

Since YouMo e-bikes were equipped with the Go SwissDrive drive system, YouMo felt a responsibility to secure supply for existing customers after the manufacturer ceased operations. By acquiring the remaining spare parts and independently continuing development of the system, YouMo succeeded in offering a reliable repair and spare-parts service for Go SwissDrive customers over the following years.

The acquisition of the XCYC brand

In April 2024, YouMo AG acquired the XCYC brand, expanding its portfolio with robust and versatile e-cargo bikes. The products are suitable for both commercial and private use and stand for sustainable transport.

Collaboration

Matthias Reim as co-designer

In 2019, we developed a special e-bike design together with singer Matthias Reim. As an enthusiastic e-bike rider, he contributed his own ideas – a model that combines style and functionality. Als begeisterter E-Bike-Fahrer brachte er eigene Ideen ein – ein Modell, das Stil und Funktionalität vereint.

Annual Milestones

The chronicle of our development

2014: YouMo was founded by Knut Späte, and the first prototype of the YouMo eCruiser was unveiled.

2015: Launch of the YouMo eCruiser, initial sales success, and securing the first partners from Swiss universities and companies.

2016: Expansion of the product range and expansion of the sales network in Switzerland.

2017: Participation in international bicycle and electric mobility trade shows; winning of first international awards.

2018: Introduction of new models and technical innovations, expansion of the team, and opening of the logistics hub in Singen.

2019: Collaboration with Matthias Reim as co-designer of a special e-bike model; partnership with additional international partners; expansion of production capacity.
