Problems with the motor and assistance
No motor assistance
We know about this fault and are working on the fault description. If you need a quick answer, just get in touch with us!
Weak motor assistance
If the Go SwissDrive motor suddenly assists much less than before, this can be due to various factors. The fault usually shows itself in that, with the same force on the pedals, the motor assists less than before. One possible reason is an incorrect parameter set that was loaded during a service or when the bike was bought. To fix this, we recommend contacting your dealer or us and having a new parameter set loaded.
Another possible reason for weaker motor assistance can be a fatigued or worn torque sensor. In this case we recommend first having the motor recalibrated. If this brings no improvement, the torque sensor must be replaced by YouMo. For this you can send us the complete rear wheel or just the motor.
Another possible reason for a sudden weakening of the motor assistance can occur in cold weather below 2 °C, if the bike has been exposed to the cold for a long time. For a short period, the manufacturer fitted elastomers in the torque sensors that become hard after prolonged use and at low temperatures, so that more force has to be applied when pedalling. This behaviour disappears again at higher temperatures. To fix this, we recommend either moving the bike to a warmer place, switching up the assistance level, or sending the motor to YouMo so that the torque sensor can be replaced.
The motor no longer reaches full speed
If the motor no longer reaches the full top speed it had at the beginning, this points to settling or wear of the torque sensor's elastomer.
This can possibly be fixed by recalibrating the motor, but that is not always possible. You can have the calibration carried out by your dealer or by us. If calibration does not have the desired effect, the torque sensor must be replaced. For this, the motor or the rear wheel has to be sent to YouMo.
The motor brakes while riding
If your e-bike motor feels stiff and brakes while riding, there may be several different causes that you should tell apart. For example, you should establish whether it happens right at setting off or at higher speeds, and whether it happens always or only sometimes.
To find the cause, you should examine how the e-bike system behaves and what is shown on the display and on the battery during the fault. If a negative wattage or current draw is shown on the display while braking, the switch on the brake lever for regeneration or the cable connection may be defective. In this case, the indicator on the battery should switch to “Charging”. This can also occur only sporadically.
To verify this, disconnect the connection between the brake lever and the display. If the motor then no longer brakes, either the cable or the brake lever is defective. To find out which of the two parts is defective, you can test it with a continuity tester. The switch on the brake lever normally closes when you operate the brake lever. If the continuity test shows continuity all the time, however, whether you operate the brake lever or not, the switch in the brake lever is defective.
If the motor suddenly and unexpectedly brakes very hard and the battery goes into short-circuit protection mode, it is very likely that the electronics in the motor are defective. If you press the button on the battery in this case, all the LEDs flash together several times. You will often also hear noises coming from the motor and may feel a rattling.
However, it may also be that the battery is defective and goes into short-circuit mode. In this case, though, the motor does not actively brake; instead the assistance is missing.
The motor runs without me having to pedal
The problem described points to a so-called runaway motor. It occurs in different variations. The behaviour can depend on the ambient temperature. An error code “M2” may also be shown on your display.
Usually the behaviour shows itself in that, after you have pedalled, the motor continues to assist on its own for several seconds. This can also be permanent.
This behaviour can often be fixed by recalibrating the torque sensor. This can be done by a dealer or by YouMo.
We are working on being able to offer such a service to you at home as well.
Motor hums and judders
Juddering or humming of the motor can have various causes. A common cause is overheating of the motor, which can be caused by a defect in the electronics. Another possible reason is a defect in the torque sensor. Similar behaviour can also occur with a defective battery.
To narrow down the fault further, we recommend doing another test ride. Make sure the battery is fully charged before you start the ride. The following information is important for assessing the fault:
- How often do you use turbo mode? Do you ride a lot or only use your e-bike occasionally?
- How many kilometres have you covered with your e-bike?
- Has your e-bike been serviced regularly? The key question is whether the freewheel has been serviced and cleaned.
- Does the fault occur immediately or only after a certain time?
- How strong is the juddering/vibration?
- Does the motor slow down when this happens, or do you just feel it?
- When this happens, does the battery go into short-circuit mode and switch off?
If you can provide this information, we can assess the fault more precisely. The motor or the rear wheel will probably have to be sent in for inspection. Precise information on the behaviour of the e-bike is important for fixing the fault, though.
Changed motor behaviour after the repair – what causes this?
It can happen that the responsiveness of your e-bike feels different after the repair. Although we do not change the software settings during the repair, other factors can influence the riding feel:
- Effect of material fatigue of the torque sensor: The measurement of pedal force is based on the deformation of an elastomer, which can become softer over the years. This means that after the repair the sensor reacts differently to pedal force than before. In this case the e-bike tends to feel more sluggish.
- Different elastomers: In the past, elastomers with different hardness grades were used. These were used mainly in the early days of manufacture. We do not know exactly when and in what quantities this was the case. At present, however, we use the same hardness grade that has been used in recent years.
Can the motor's responsiveness and dynamics be adjusted?
Yes, on special customer request we can adjust the riding behaviour of the motor for BikeBus and ANT+ systems. The degree of adjustment depends, however, on the presets in the display and motor. To make the adjustment, we need the display and the rear wheel of your e-bike. Please use our repair and service form (CH) & repair and service form (EU) for this.
In which circumstances does it make sense to change the motor's riding parameters?
There are various situations in which it can make sense for you to adjust the riding parameters of your e-bike. Here are some examples:
Physical impairment: If you have limited or uneven pedalling force in your legs, we can adjust the motor assistance so that it is better matched to your needs. This ensures more comfort and efficiency when riding.
Change of intended use: If you now want to use your e-bike for longer journeys rather than city rides, adjusting the parameters can help. The motor can then be set up better for longer distances, gradients or greater range.
Change in pedalling smoothness: If your pedal stroke no longer feels even, or you notice a change, adjusting the motor parameters can provide a smoother and more harmonious pedal stroke.
After torque sensor repair: If the riding feel is different after a sensor repair, we can adjust the riding parameters to a limited extent so that your e-bike feels as it did before.
Please note that we can currently make the adjustments for systems with BikeBus and ANT+, but not for CAN-Bus systems.
Maintenance and care of the freewheel and replacement if defective
A freewheel is prone to wear, especially if it is not carefully maintained and greased. Hardened grease or dirt can also cause problems. Regular maintenance extends the life of the freewheel. This is particularly important with the Go SwissDrive motor, as non-functioning pawls on the freewheel destroy the toothing in the motor.
How long the internal toothing lasts depends strongly on how you use your e-bike, and less on the mileage alone. In many cases wear is already visible after about 8,000 to 12,000 km. Around 40% of all repair cases at YouMo can be traced back to exactly this cause.
Maintaining the freewheel
To service the freewheel, you have to remove the rear wheel and then the cassette from the freewheel.
Then remove the freewheel nut with a narrow open-ended spanner. Alternatively, with the Z8 axle you can push the front ring away with a spanner. You can then pull the freewheel off the motor.
Inspect the freewheel in general, and in particular the 6 small pawls arranged in pairs on the freewheel, as well as the toothing of the motor. If the nut or the bush are badly worn, replace them.
Assessing the motor's toothing
The toothing consists of the recesses in which the pawls engage while riding. The wear does not arise primarily when pedalling, but in the freewheel itself: if you pedal briefly and then coast again, or often ride in too low a gear, the pawls constantly slide over the tooth flanks without engaging – even with careful maintenance.
Over time this causes material abrasion on the teeth: the corners of the toothing become rounded, and a small ridge forms in the middle between the pairs of pawls. The result: not all pawls engage cleanly any more, and you notice this, for example, through slipping when setting off, unreliable engagement or suddenly pedalling through.
If you are unsure whether the toothing is still fine or should be replaced, contact us via our service form. Simply send us the serial number of your drive or a good photo of the toothing, and we can check whether replacement is necessary.
A worn condition does not automatically mean the whole motor has to be replaced: since YouMo took over the repair service, we have been fitting a revised toothing made of stronger material, which can often be replaced without removing the motor or rear wheel.
If the toothing is still intact, clean the inside of the motor's toothing and then grease it lightly. We use Thermoplex 2 TML from Lubcon, which has proved very effective.
Assessing the freewheel
Assess the housing and the pawls of the freewheel.
Freewheels that are extremely dirty and completely seized should be replaced.
If you can continue to use the freewheel, clean it thoroughly. The pawls must then move freely and spring back well to their starting position.
Only use freewheels that work really well, as otherwise clicking noises can occur or, in the worst case, the motor's toothing is destroyed.
Then lightly grease the pawls with the grease mentioned above.
Fitting the freewheel
Put the freewheel back into the motor. Please make sure you do not forget the bush that was originally fitted, as otherwise the freewheel presses on the motor's bearing and destroys it.
Fit the nut and tighten it lightly again (2 Nm).
You can then refit the cassette on the freewheel and install the motor back into your e-bike.

Error messages and error codes
There are a number of error messages or error codes that can appear on the display. Depending on the type of display, these errors are shown differently.
The error codes are divided into different categories: display errors are marked with a preceding “D”, communication errors between the individual components with a preceding “C”, and motor errors with an “M”. On the standard display the preceding “M” is omitted and no display errors are shown either.
Communication errors
The most frequently occurring error codes are the communication errors EC-22, EC-40, EC-0 and EC-64.
Error code EC-22, EC-40
The error E22 or EC-40 means that there are communication problems between the display and the motor.
The most common causes are plug and cable connections between the display, motor and battery.
The following sources of error, in order of frequency, are as follows in detail:
- Very fine metal shavings / metal dust on the battery socket
- Loose contact on the display cable, sometimes occurring only occasionally
- Corroded contacts on the battery plug or socket
- Corroded contacts on the motor plug or socket
- Faulty connection / loose contact on the motor plug
- With the standard display, loose contact / defect on the display plug
- On older e-bikes, e.g. Bulls, faulty connection at the connecting contacts in the frame (near the bottom bracket)
- Faulty motor cable
The first step in troubleshooting is a visual check of all plug connections and contacts. Checking the battery socket is also important, see 1. A continuity test of the individual wires can help determine the cause. The wires should also be checked for possible loose contacts. By cross-swapping with working components, the cause of the fault can be determined with great certainty. You can have the cross-swap test carried out by your dealer or by YouMo.
Error code EC-64
The error EC-64 is very similar to EC-22. The troubleshooting procedure is the same. In this case, though, the motor may also be defective. If the cross-swap test identifies the motor as the source of the fault, it must be sent in for repair.
If the battery indicator is not displayed (empty display), the cause lies in the battery.
Error code EC-0
The error EC-0 means that the display is not receiving any signals from the motor. The most common reason is that the motor plug has not been plugged into the wiring harness, or not correctly, or has come loose. Another possible reason is that an incorrect parameter set has been programmed on the motor. If the motor is defective and can no longer communicate with the display, this error is also shown on the display.
Display errors
The most frequently occurring display error codes are D300 and D304.
Error code D300
The error D300 indicates an internal memory error. We can often fix this error. To do so, you must send us your display for reprogramming.
Error code D304
The error D304 means that the display's internal battery has to be replaced. To do this, the display housing has to be dismantled. As this gives direct access to the electronics, we recommend having this done by your dealer or by YouMo.

Display problems
The display won't switch on
If you have problems switching on the display of your Go SwissDrive e-bike system, this can have various reasons. One of the most common causes is an inadequate cable connection or a defective plug. To check this, we recommend carefully checking all cable connections and plugs and replacing them if necessary. Because the battery plug is magnetic, metal shavings may be attracted to the plug. These then like to settle on the socket of the battery housing. Check the battery plug and socket for this kind of deposit and, if necessary, clean it carefully. If you still have problems after these steps, please contact our technical support (CH), who will be happy to help you.
Pressing individual buttons on the EVO display has no effect
A known fault is that the EVO display can be switched on, but individual buttons no longer work. This can occur because of incompatibility between the display and the docking station, or a defective docking station. To determine the cause, you should compare the article numbers of the display and the docking station. You will find instructions for this in the table further down. If the display and the docking station are compatible, but certain buttons do not work, you have to replace the docking station. You will find the suitable product in our web shop, either here for CAN-Bus displays or for the BikeBus displays up to 2015 or BikeBus displays from 2016.
Important: We have found that there are displays that work but destroy the functionality of docking stations. It can happen that individual buttons stop working after only a short time following the replacement of the docking station. We suspect defective protective elements of the electronics in the display as the cause. We were able to identify the fault by measuring the impedance between the contact of the remote pin and the battery and BikeBus pins. If this is significantly below 70 kOhm, we suspect that the display will destroy new docking stations again. We therefore recommend that, if a docking station is defective, you send it in together with the display for testing. Otherwise we cannot accept any warranty for defects.
Pressing individual buttons on the standard display has no effect
If certain buttons on the Go SwissDrive standard display no longer work, the only option is to replace the display. It can be replaced with an EVO display with docking station. You will also need an adapter plug, as the EVO display uses a different plug. When changing over, it is important to note whether a brake switch for regeneration has also been fitted to your e-bike. In that case you need a special adapter plug if you want to continue using this function.
Display mists up
The Go SwissDrive EVO display is in principle protected against rain, wet and snow, and the housing is sealed. In rare cases, however, the display can nevertheless mist up. One possible cause is that the display has been exposed to moisture for a long time at changing temperatures and, because of different pressure conditions inside and outside, air with higher humidity is drawn in. Because cold air can absorb less water than warm air, the display can then mist up. A good way to fix this is to put the display, for example, in a container of rice in a warm place; the rice then absorbs the moisture.
As a preventive measure, you can also simply take the display off the docking station if you leave it standing outside for a long time.
The display shows a faulty image and possibly not all buttons work correctly any more
If the display shows a faulty image, the screen content sometimes overlaps when you press the menu button, the display's file system may be corrupt. Sometimes the display can also still be switched on but no longer switched off.
We can try to update the display's software and restore the file system. Please send the display to us, YouMo, for this. Please use our repair and service form for this.
The display shows an empty battery although it is charged
If the display shows an empty battery although it is charged, the battery status is not being transmitted to the display. This can have various causes.
First you should check whether any of the components in the system, such as the display, docking station, battery or wiring harness, have been replaced. Perhaps one of the components is not compatible with the others?
If you have replaced components and do not know whether they are compatible with each other, send us photos of the product labels of all components via our repair and service form.
You should also check whether your motor is assisting and whether any other error is shown on the display.
A common cause is a faulty connection originating from the plug on the battery.
Very small metal shavings often collect here. Please check the socket and the plug for such residues. Be careful, they are often very small.
Often the battery plug is also not fully inserted into the socket. One reason for this can be that the length of the battery cable is too long or too short. The length of the battery cable should be set so that the battery plug is fully drawn in by the magnets in the socket. To check the correct fit, once the plug has engaged, grip the battery plug firmly at the left and right of the handle and wiggle it. If the plug is slightly tilted, adjust its position slightly. You can usually do this via the cable's fixing points on the frame.
If these measures bring no improvement, contact your dealer. They may be able to carry out a cross-swap test with working components. If you do not have a dealer near you, contact us and we will see that we find a solution.
The odometer on the EVO display is no longer updated
It is unusual for the display to stop updating. The file system may have an error.
We can try to repair and reset the file system. To do so, you must send the display to YouMo. Get in touch via our repair and service form and submit your request. We will then send you a repair order and a delivery note.
EVO display has a loose contact
A loose contact between the EVO display and the docking station shows itself, among other things, in the display briefly switching off while riding, or the display only switching on if you press on it or twist it sideways.
First you should make sure there is no contamination between the display and the docking station. A common cause is corroded contacts on the display or the docking station. To fix the problem, you can try cleaning the contacts on the display and the docking station with a fibreglass brush.
If the problem persists, the contacts of the display or the docking station may be damaged. If you are unsure, you can send us photos for assessment, or send in both parts for inspection.
In most of these cases we can repair the display and docking station, or replace the back of the display. Get in touch via our repair and service form and submit your request. We will then send you a repair order and a delivery note.

The display shows an empty battery, but the battery has been charged.
We know about this fault and are working on the fault description. If you need a quick answer, just get in touch with us!
The battery goes into short-circuit mode
If your battery goes into short-circuit mode, it means that it has automatically interrupted the current and voltage supply to the system because of excessive current flow. This shows as flashing LEDs on the battery when you press the button on the battery. This is a protection mode of the battery in which it no longer outputs any voltage. The reason can be a temporary or permanent fault in the wiring harness, or a defective motor.
To verify the problem, you can reset the battery. To do this, hold the button on the battery down for about 10 seconds until the 2nd LED on the battery lights up. Then reconnect the battery and press the button on the battery. This restarts the battery. If the problem was temporary, the LEDs light up one after the other. If the problem is permanent, all the LEDs light up together and the battery of your e-bike has gone into short-circuit mode again. In this case you should contact your specialist dealer or YouMo to have a repair carried out.
The capacity indicator on the battery drops after a few days without my using the e-bike
If this occurs, it is very likely that the battery cells are defective. In this case you should not continue to use the battery and should contact your specialist dealer or YouMo to have a repair carried out.

Specific problems with the Go SwissDrive CAN-Bus system
The Go SwissDrive CAN-Bus system in e-bikes enables communication between various electronic control units, such as the motor, the battery, the display and, in some cases, the lighting. The Go SwissDrive CAN-Bus system differs in system behaviour from the BikeBus system. Unlike the BikeBus system, where information is transmitted between the individual components over a single wire, in the CAN system it is transmitted differentially over 2 wires. In the CAN system there is not, as in the BikeBus system, a master that controls communication between the motor, battery and display. With the Go SwissDrive system, however, the motor collects the information on the bus system and sends it to the display or the service tool. Among other things, this has an influence on behaviour when there are faults in the system.
The +/- buttons on the EVO display do not work AND the battery status is not shown
If the display can be switched on, but the +/- buttons on the display do not work and the battery status is not shown on the display, the display is not receiving any information from the motor.
One possible reason can be a disrupted connection in the communication between the display and the motor. The cause can be a defective cable or a defective plug. It may also be possible, however, that the motor's electronics are defective.
For locating and fixing the fault, contact your dealer or us.
If you have the option of cross-swapping the components, you can narrow down the source of the fault this way. Another way of locating the source of the fault is to measure through the wiring harness. If you can narrow down the source of the fault, you can contact us for the repair or the spare part. We can replace the wiring harness or connectors. If you have identified the motor as the source of the fault, we can repair the motor.
If you are unsure which components are defective, or you have no way of cross-swapping, get in touch via our repair and service form (CH) & repair and service form (EU) and submit your request. We will then send you a repair order and a delivery note. You are also welcome to bring your complete e-bike to us for inspection.

Specific problems with the Go SwissDrive ANT+ system
The display connects to the battery. The motor does not assist, or only briefly.
If the display can be connected (paired) to the battery but the motor does not assist, or only briefly, there can be various causes.
1. The battery of your e-bike is defective or not compatible with the ANT+ system
2. The motor is defective
3. The display is defective
To find the cause of the problem, you can put the battery into emergency mode. In this mode the display has no function and the motor assists in “Normal” mode.
To put the battery into emergency mode, proceed as follows:
Press the ON button on the battery for longer than 15 seconds, until the 3rd LED lights up. Then release the ON button again.
If 4 LEDs then stay lit, the system is in emergency riding mode.
Then carry out a test ride. If the motor assists correctly, the fault lies in the connection between the display and the battery.
YouMo cannot supply new displays. We can supply ANT+ batteries.
If the motor does not assist at all, the fault may be in the battery or the motor.
We can investigate whether the fault lies in the battery or the motor. For this you must send both to us via our spare parts and repair service for existing Go SwissDrive systems.
We also offer the option of converting the ANT+ to a BikeBus system. You will find the details in the section further down.

Preventive measures to avoid electrical problems and defects
You can help prevent electrical problems and defects yourself.
Contact problems on the battery
With the Go SwissDrive system, contact problems on the battery are often caused by small metal shavings or very small metallic objects. In most cases these reach the battery via the magnetic charging plug. Please make sure you do not leave your charging plug lying on the floor. It picks up very small metallic objects, such as metal shavings, and transfers them to the battery's charging socket when charging.
Another cause of contact problems on the battery is water. This can happen if the e-bike is left standing in the rain and the battery has been taken out of the e-bike. Rain can cause water to collect in the plug. If the plug is then inserted into the socket on the battery, a short circuit can occur on the battery and the contacts can burn. You can prevent this by freeing the battery plug of water. Often shaking it off is enough to remove the water.
Electrical defects caused by plugging and unplugging connectors
Electrical defects in the e-bike system can be caused by plugging and unplugging connectors while the display and/or battery is switched on.
There are several plug connections in the Go SwissDrive system:
- Motor plug (connection between motor and wiring harness)
- Battery plug (connection between wiring harness and battery)
- Display plug (connection between wiring harness and display/docking station)
Please make sure the system is de-energised before you disconnect any of the plug connections. Switch the display off and/or put the battery into sleep mode. Note that the wiring harness carries a voltage even when the display is switched off.
With the CAN system, pulling out a plug that is not de-energised can cause a defect in the motor's electronics. In particular
With all Go SwissDrive batteries known to us, you can put the battery into sleep mode by pressing the button on the battery for longer.
Other problems
Clicking noise around the rear wheel while riding
While riding an e-bike or electric bicycle, you may notice a clicking noise. This can have very many different causes, and the location of the click is often hard to pinpoint. There are, however, some typical signs that can help you determine the cause of the problem.
The following phenomena are distinguished:
- Occasional clicking
- Constant clicking
- Clicking only under load
- Clicking when turning the rear wheel without load
- Clicking when turning the pedals without load
- Clicking when pedalling under load
- When the clicking occurs
- After the first several hundred kilometres of use
- Only when cornering, usually in one direction
- After a certain time of riding (e.g. after 20-30 minutes)
- After a longer period of use (several thousand kilometres)
- When the temperature changes (cold to warm, warm to cold)
Possible causes of the clicking can be:
- Slightly loose spokes or uneven spoke tension (1, 2, 3, 7a-d)
- Screws on the motor housing that are slightly loose (1, 2, 3, 6, 7a-c)
- Worn pawls on the freewheel (1, 2, 4-6, 7c-e)
- Dirt and/or grease on the freewheel that has hardened, and pawls that sometimes stick (1-6, 7c-e)
- Chain that has stretched through use (1, 2, 5, 6, 7d)
- Worn toothing for the freewheel on the motor (1, 2, 4-6, 7c-e)
- Worn bearings in the motor (1, 2, 6, 7 7c-e)
- Worn bearings in the bottom bracket (1-3, 6, 7c-e)
- Very dirty rear derailleur (1, 2, 5, 6, 7d-e)
Depending on your level of knowledge, you can fix causes A-E, H and I yourself, or have the dealer you trust do it.
In cases F and G you must send the motor or the complete rear wheel to YouMo.
To prevent clicking, we recommend servicing your e-bike regularly or having your dealer service it.
Pedals go partly or fully through
If the pedals go partly or fully through, there is probably a defect in the freewheel of your e-bike. We strongly recommend that you stop riding to avoid damage to the motor. The freewheel should be removed and replaced by a specialist dealer. If you are technically skilled yourself, you can also remove and replace the freewheel yourself. You can buy spare parts for this in our online shop. It is also important to check the toothing on the motor, where the freewheel's pawls engage, for damage. Pedals going through is often preceded by a clicking noise around the rear wheel. We have created a separate section on this here in the FAQ. Early servicing of your electric bicycle prevents greater damage to the motor.
Compatibility between ANT+ and BikeBus system / converting from ANT+ to BikeBus
With some e-bike manufacturers, the Go SwissDrive system was fitted with the ANT+ communication system. Unlike the wired BikeBus system, ANT+ is a wireless transmission system.
In the ANT+ system, the heart of the system is fitted in the battery. It is connected to the motor by a cable and controls it. The display is connected to the battery via the ANT+ radio link. ANT+ and BikeBus systems are not compatible with each other and the components cannot be exchanged between them.
If you want to convert your e-bike from ANT+ to the BikeBus system, a conversion is required that includes the following:
- Reprogramming the motor
- Replacing the wiring harness
- Adding a compatible display
There is, however, a limitation in compatibility. Because the existing battery cannot communicate with the BikeBus system, the battery capacity is not shown on the display. If you want this conversion, you can have it carried out by us or by an authorised dealer with experience of the Go SwissDrive system.
The Go SwissDrive app is no longer available in the app store
The Go SwissDrive app for iPhone and Android was developed by the company Go SwissDrive and was available in the app stores.
For Android it is still available on the Google Play Store. For the iPhone version it was removed from the App Store, probably because the app was no longer updated and is no longer compatible with the current iOS.
We are not a legal successor of Go SwissDrive and have an influence on the availability of the Go SwissDrive app.
In our view the benefit of the original app was limited, which is why we are not currently focusing on it. If this changes in future, we would announce it here. If you have specific suggestions regarding the app and its functions, you are welcome to contact us via our contact form.
The e-bike suddenly switches off while riding
The sudden switching off of the e-bike can have various causes, which can differ depending on how the fault occurs:
Under heavy load or after a certain time:
Possible cause: a defective battery.
The e-bike can then be switched on again and keeps going for a while:
Possible causes: This problem can be caused by several factors, including:
- Faults in the wiring harness or connectors.
- A defective battery.
- A defective motor.
The e-bike is hard to switch back on, possibly only by unplugging and replugging the battery or the cable connections:
Possible causes: This problem can often be traced back to faults in the wiring harness or at the connectors.
To narrow down the source of the fault here, a cross-swap test of the components is recommended. For locating and fixing the fault, contact your dealer or us.

Guides and instructions
Converting a standard display to an EVO display
Removing the old standard display
- Undo the screw-on plug on the current display and pull it off.
- Remove the old display from the handlebars by undoing the Phillips screw and carefully pulling the display off. The tab is flexible enough for this.
Fitting the new display
- Attach the docking station of the new display directly to the stem with the two screws. Use an Allen key for this.
- Fix the control unit of the new display to the handlebars with one screw, again using an Allen key.
Connecting the adapter cable
- Connect the supplied adapter cable to the frame cable on one side
- Note the shape of the plug. First push the plug of the adapter cable onto the socket on the frame cable a few millimetres, then screw plug and socket together with the knurled nut
- Plug the other end of the adapter cable into the docking station cable.
Mounting the display
- Place the new display so that it faces you in the direction of travel, and slide it onto the docking station until it clicks securely into place.
How do I correctly determine the tyre circumference of my e-bike?
- Preparation: Make sure your bike or e-bike is standing upright and the weight is evenly distributed on both tyres. Make sure the tyres are fully inflated to get accurate measurements.
- Mark on the tyre: Choose a spot on the tyre where you can make a mark. This could be, for example, a particular point on the tyre or the position of the valve.
- Ground mark: Make a mark on the ground directly beneath the chosen spot on the tyre. You can use, for example, a strip of tape or a piece of chalk.
- Starting position: Make sure the valve is positioned at the chosen mark on the ground.
- Roll the e-bike: Roll the e-bike forwards until the valve reaches the mark on the ground again. Make sure the bike travels straight while rolling and does not wobble.
- Mark on the ground: Make another mark on the ground as soon as the valve has reached the starting position again.
- Measuring the distance: Measure the distance between the two ground marks. Use a tape measure or a folding rule to determine the distance accurately. The measured distance between the ground marks corresponds to the tyre circumference of your e-bike.
How do I measure the wiring harness?
Are you having problems with the wiring harness of your e-bike? To be able to help you effectively, we need some information from you, including the dimensions of the wiring harness.
What you need for measuring the wiring harness
- A ruler
- A string / flexible tape at least as long as the bike
Identifying the wiring harness sections correctly
Locate and mark the different sections of the wiring harness that are to be measured.
1. Display cable
2. Battery plug
3. Wiring harness junction
4. Light cable
- Display cable: From the display plug to the motor plug
- Battery plug: From the end of the battery plug to the motor plug
- Wiring harness junction: From the motor plug to the end of the junction on the wiring harness
- Light cable (if the light on your e-bike is powered through the wiring harness): from the motor plug to the end of the cable
There are different variants of light control
Variant 1: rear light controlled by the front lamp
4a – From the motor plug to the end of the front lamp light cable.
4b – From the front lamp to the end of the rear light cable.
Variant 2: front lamp and rear light powered via the battery
4c – From the motor plug to the end of the front lamp cable
4d – From the motor plug to the end of the rear light cable
Note that there are brands in which a separate light control may be fitted. See the section Light control on the Go SwissDrive system
Carrying out the length measurement
Start exactly at one end of the wiring harness. Here is how to do it correctly:
2. Use the string to measure the length of each section accurately along the wiring harness. If it has kinks, follow these kinks. We need a measurement that is as precise as possible.
3. Mark both ends on the string. Take the string off the wiring harness and measure the length of the string.
4. If the light on your e-bike is powered via the electrical wiring harness, you must tell us the dimensions for this wiring harness (either 4a & 4b or 4c & 4d).
5. Note down the measured lengths carefully.

Guide to troubleshooting with a cross-swap test on a Go SwissDrive e-bike system
One or more of the components of your e-bike system no longer work and/or your system can no longer be switched on. You have working spare parts or another, working e-bike. Using a cross-swap test you can determine which component(s) is/are defective.
Procedure:
1. Prepare the working components:
Make sure the spare components work properly. Make sure you have spare components or another e-bike on which the components are compatible with each other. Please note that there are variants in which displays, batteries and motors are not compatible with each other.
2. Check the wiring harness:
Check the wiring harness thoroughly for damage, loose connections or other obvious problems. Make sure all connectors are firmly connected to each other and there are no worn or broken wires. In particular, note the section Contact problems on the battery.
3. Swap the display:
Find the cable connector of the display or docking station and carefully disconnect it from the original connection. Connect the spare display / docking station to the wiring harness by plugging the corresponding connectors together. Now try to switch on the e-bike. If the system starts up successfully, the original display is faulty. If the problem persists, move on to the next step.
Refit the original display first.
4. Swap the battery:
Remove the original battery from the e-bike. Attach the spare battery to the e-bike and make sure it is connected correctly. Try to switch on the e-bike again. If the system now starts properly, the original battery was faulty. If the problem persists, move on to the next step.
Refit the original battery first.
5. Swap the motor:
Disconnect the motor from the wiring harness. Connect the spare motor to the wiring harness. Try to switch on the e-bike again. If the system now works perfectly, the original motor was defective. If the problem persists, continue with the next step.
6. Swapping several components at the same time:
If your e-bike cannot be switched on without faults in any of these cases, several components may be defective at the same time. First try swapping both the display and the battery, and if this does not succeed either, additionally swap the motor.
If your e-bike still cannot be switched on without faults, your wiring harness is probably defective.
7. Identifying multiple faulty components if the wiring harness is also affected:
This step is required if another component is defective in addition to the wiring harness. You need a second working e-bike / system, so that you can identify all faulty components beyond doubt.
After you have already carried out steps 1 to 6 once, you now swap the components from the non-working e-bike onto the working e-bike. Proceed in exactly the same order as in points 2 to 5. The second faulty component, besides the wiring harness, will then be identified in one of the steps.
