An XCYC cargo E-bike is worthwhile from the first vehicle for businesses with regular short and medium-distance transports up to 300 kg, regardless of the size of the company.

Self-employed craftsmen save on parking searches and detours around driving restriction zones, while larger fleets (municipalities, logistics providers) additionally benefit from lower operating costs per vehicle and economies of scale in fleet branding. What matters more is not the size of the business but the transport profile: load weight, distance, and frequency of use.

A cargo bike is the general term for bicycles with a loading area, an XCYC Cargo E-Bike is an electrically assisted, commercial-grade cargo bike with Pedelec drive and a load capacity of up to 300 kg.

Classic cargo bikes without a motor rely on pure muscle power and are usually unsuitable for high loads in commercial continuous use. XCYC Cargo E-Bikes are specifically designed for professional commercial use: reinforced frame, Bosch Cargo-Line motor, and modular structures for crafts, municipalities, and logistics.

All XCYC Cargo E-Bikes are powered by the Bosch Cargo-Line motor with 85 Nm torque.

The Bosch Cargo-Line is specifically designed for cargo bikes with high load capacity and delivers consistent power output from the start, even when fully loaded (up to 300 kg for the XCYC WORK). The pedal assistance ends at 25 km/h, as with all Pedelecs.

Depending on the model, the XCYC Cargo E-Bike achieves a range of up to 100 km (WORK) or up to 65 km (ALLROUND, LONGTAIL) per battery charge.

The actual range depends on load, topography, and selected support level. For commercial all-day use, an intermediate charge during lunch or a second battery is recommended.

The XCYC Cargo E-Bike is significantly more stable than a two-wheeled cargo bike in winter conditions, thanks to its low center of gravity and tricycle design.

For winter use, winter tires with spikes or reinforced tread are recommended, as well as a reduced load on icy routes. The Bosch Cargo-Line motor is designed for outdoor operation at low temperatures; the battery range decreases noticeably in cold weather, as with all E-Bike batteries.

Yes: In Germany, the BAFA supports the commercial purchase of an XCYC Cargo E-Bike with 25% of the acquisition costs, up to a maximum of €3,500 per vehicle. In Switzerland, the funding amounts vary depending on the canton and municipality.

An XCYC Cargo E-Bike can be test ridden at selected dealers as well as directly at YouMo in Rapperswil-Jona. If needed, delivery is also possible, so the cargo bike can be test ridden on-site by customers throughout Switzerland.

Bosch components (motor, battery, display) are subject to Bosch warranty conditions. For commercial use, an annual service contract is recommended.

Maintenance and service for XCYC Cargo E-Bikes are provided through the authorized YouMo dealer network.

In Germany, there is no legal helmet requirement for pedelecs up to 25 km/h – regardless of the model. In Switzerland, as of July 1, 2025, a helmet requirement is expected for XCYC WORK, but not for ALLROUND and LONGTAIL.

Massgeblich ist die zulässige Gesamtmasse des Fahrzeugs: bis 250 kg gilt ein Cargo E-Bike in der Schweiz als „leichtes Motorfahrrad" – keine Helmpflicht, kein Kontrollschild, kein Führerausweis nötig. Zwischen 250 und 450 kg gilt es als „schweres Motorfahrrad" – dafür sind Helm, Kontrollschild und Führerausweis der Kategorie M vorgeschrieben. XCYC WORK hat 300 kg zulässige Gesamtmasse und fällt damit in die zweite Kategorie. XCYC ALLROUND liegt mit 250 kg exakt auf der Grenze zwischen den beiden Kategorien. LONGTAIL (180 kg Zuladung) bleibt voraussichtlich in der leichten Kategorie.

For XCYC ALLROUND and LONGTAIL, there is no legal insurance requirement in Switzerland and Germany. For XCYC WORK, a license plate and thus insurance requirement is expected in Switzerland as of July 1, 2025.

A private liability insurance usually also covers damages caused to third parties as a rider of a cargo E-Bike. For commercial use, additional comprehensive insurance against theft and damage from falls is recommended. Since XCYC WORK, with a permissible total weight of 300 kg, falls into the category of "heavy motor bicycle" in Switzerland, a motor vehicle liability insurance with a license plate is likely required here. In Germany, the insurance requirement remains unchanged for all three models (voluntary).

In Switzerland, as of July 1, 2025, there is a limit of 250 kg permissible total weight for the license-free and helmet-free category of "light motor bicycle"; up to 450 kg, the category of "heavy motor bicycle" applies with additional requirements.

In Germany, there is no comparable weight classification for the Pedelec classification: The decisive factors are the motor power (max. 250 watts nominal continuous power) and the pedal assistance up to 25 km/h, regardless of the total weight of the vehicle. For BAFA funding, a minimum weight of 170 kg permissible total weight is additionally required as a funding prerequisite.

Regarding the XCYC models: XCYC WORK (300 kg permissible total weight) is expected to fall into the category of "heavy electric bicycle" in Switzerland. XCYC ALLROUND (250 kg) is exactly on the border between "light" and "heavy". XCYC LONGTAIL (180 kg payload) is expected to remain in the light, license-free category.
