Why choose a cargo e-bike over a van?

For many local authorities, cities and businesses, switching to cargo e-bikes is no longer just a trend, but an economically sensible decision. And what are the specific benefits of making the switch?

Cost efficiency

An XCYC Work saves up to 75% of total costs compared to a conventional van.
Over a period of five years, it costs only €15,000–18,000 (CHF 14,400–17,300), including maintenance, energy and operation.
A diesel van costs an average of around €73,500 (CHF 70,500) over the same period.

Time advantage in use

Up to 50% faster in everyday city life. While transporters often have to stop at the roadside, the XCYC Work can be taken right to the job site. This saves walking distances and therefore time on every job.

Sustainability

Every journey counts:
0 g CO₂/km with the Cargo e-bike
160–200 g CO₂/km with a diesel van

This improves air quality and supports urban environmental and climate goals.

Driving licence? Not necessary.

In Switzerland, you do not need a driving licence for vehicles with a total weight of up to 250 kg. You can drive from the age of 16 (or from 14 with a moped licence). For vehicles with a total weight of up to 450 kg, a moped licence (category M) is sufficient.

In Germany, cargo e-bikes with a maximum pedal assistance speed of 25 km/h and a motor power of 250 W are classified as bicycles: no licence, registration or insurance required.
