- Suspension seat post from Kinekt:…
Your next seat post? Probably a suspension one – because anyone who cycles frequently will quickly notice how much comfort depends on it. But before buying, many questions arise: Which seat post diameter fits my frame? What length do I need? Which spring stiffness is right for my weight – e.g. even if I weigh over 120 kg?
The answers to these questions are often scattered across the internet and explained in technically complicated terms. That’s exactly why we wrote this guide. Here you’ll find everything in one place – understandable and practical. You’ll learn how to determine the correct measurements, what the differences are between the models, and how to optimally adjust and adapt your seat post.
Why the seat post is crucial for your riding experience
When cycling, you are constantly subjected to small shocks from the ground – sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. With a rigid seat post, you feel these movements directly. This may be fine for short distances, but quickly becomes uncomfortable on longer rides.
Compared to a rigid seat post, a suspension seat post acts like a small shock absorber. However, not all suspension systems work in the same way. Many simple models only move the saddle straight downwards. This makes the ride a little smoother, but can feel unstable, especially when pedalling hard.
The Kinekt seat post takes a different approach. Its parallelogram seat post technology ensures that movement follows pressure more naturally. You remain stable in the saddle while shocks are absorbed. This feels more stable, you don’t lose any power – and that’s what makes all the difference on longer rides.
Many people ask themselves: Is a suspension seat post really worth it?
The Kinekt impresses in practical tests with its comfort and stability – it is not without reason that it has been named test winner several times as a seat post.
You can find details about the test in the article: Kinekt suspension seat post: test, comparison & experiences.
Kinekt seat post: Differences between LR and XR
The best suspension seat post is available in two versions so that every rider can find the right solution: Kinekt LR and Kinekt XR. The main difference lies in the spring stiffness and thus in the recommended rider weight.
Kinekt LR has been specially developed for lighter riders, while Kinekt XR is designed for a wider weight range.
Both models feature replaceable springs that allow the suspension hardness to be adjusted.
Kinekt LR (Lower Range)
Kinekt LR covers rider weights of approximately 36–86 kg.
Each seat post comes with two springs already installed (one at the top, one at the bottom).
By default, these are:
-
black 1.5″ spring at the top
-
black 1.75″ spring at the bottom
You also get two additional purple springs (1.5‘ and 1.75’). This allows you to try out different combinations and adjust the hardness of your suspension to perfection.
Use the table to find the right combination for your weight and riding style.
Kinekt XR (Extended Range)
Kinekt XR covers a rider weight range of approximately 72–145 kg.
Each support is supplied with two pre-fitted springs (one at the top, one at the bottom).
By default, these are:
-
black 1.5″ spring at the top
-
below, a yellow 2″ spring
The scope of delivery also includes three additional springs:
-
a purple 1.5″ spring
-
a white 2″ spring
-
a red 2″ spring
This allows you to try out different combinations and adjust the suspension precisely to your weight and riding style.
Kinekt seat posts in transition: an overview of models and springs
Over the years, the Kinekt seat post has undergone a number of changes – from the model name to the springs included with purchase. A common question is, ‘How do I know which model I have?’
This information is important when it comes to purchasing replacement parts for your seat post.
The current models are called LR (Lower Range) and XR (Extended Range).
Earlier models were called BodyFloat and were available in different sizes: S/M/L and XL/2XL.
If you have a BodyFloat S/M/L, this corresponds to the LR model today.
- All LR/BodyFloat S/M/L models have a 1.5‘ upper spring and a 1.75’ lower spring.
- The lower side struts of the LR do not connect around the preload screw.
If you have a BodyFloat XL/2XL, it corresponds to the XR model today.
- All XR/BodyFloat XL/2XL models feature a 1.5‘ upper spring and a larger 2’ lower spring.
- The lower side struts of the XR enclose the preload screw.
The replacement springs available today are all grey and marked with a coloured stripe. Older models had completely coloured springs – sometimes they still appear in older seat posts or in photos/videos. If you want to find out which springs you have, look for the coloured stripe on the grey spring.
How to find the right Kinekt seat post for you
To ensure that your Kinekt seat post fits your bicycle, you must first measure your current seat post accurately. Pay attention to three specifications: minimum height in the frame, total length and diameter.
1. First, use a tape measure to check whether there is enough space for the additional height of the Kinekt seat post. Measure the distance between the seat stays and the seat post clamp. This distance must be at least 101 mm for the seat post to be compatible with LR or XR.
Other measurements you will need are the length and diameter of the seat post. You can find this information in three places: on the seat post itself, on the manufacturer’s website, or you can measure it yourself.
2. Each of these models is available in lengths of 350 and 420 mm. We recommend choosing a length that matches your current seat post or is longer. Seat post washers are available for most other sizes.
3. First, you need to determine the diameter of your seat post. The diameter is usually indicated on the post (if not, you will need to measure the diameter in millimetres).
Note: For accurate measurement, you will need a caliper gauge. A tape measure is not suitable for this purpose.
Kinekt seat posts are available in three sizes: 27.2 mm, 30.9 mm and 31.6 mm.
Select an LR or XR seat post
The selection is made solely on the basis of the driver’s weight:
LR: suitable for approx. 36–86 kg.
- Standard configuration: black 1.5‘ at the top, black 1.75’ at the bottom (already assembled).
- Also included: purple 1.5‘ and purple 1.75’.
XR: suitable for approx. 72–145 kg.
- Series configuration: black 1.5‘ at the top, yellow 2’ at the bottom (already assembled).
- Also included: purple 1.5‘, white 2’, red 2″.

Tips for the correct sitting position
A good seat post is half the battle; the other half is the right adjustment. Setting up your Kinekt is very simple.
Note your current position and assemble
- Height: Centre of the bottom bracket to the top of the saddle
- Reach: From the top of the saddle to the middle of the handlebars on the stem
- Inclination: Inclination of your saddle
- Mount Kinekt 1 cm higher than normal to allow for sagging.
- Fit your saddle to the seat post.
Determine your basic position
- See driver positions A, B, C
- Sit in the normal driving position.
- Tighten the preload screw (rotary knob) until the saddle no longer lifts without weight.
- Readjust the saddle position based on the measurements you noted earlier.
Use the previously noted values for height, range and inclination.
Customise your journey
- Loosen or tighten the preload screw/adjustment knob until the desired comfort, suitable position and optimum performance are achieved.
- Make additional adjustments during further journeys to find the best settings for different surfaces.
- Make a note of the settings so that you can replicate your favourite setup on another bike at any time!
