The "E-Cargobikes for Businesses" Pilot Program Is Live: XCYC Cargo E-Bikes Deployed Across 4 Pilot Partners
A total of 24 companies have kicked off their test year as part of the “E-Cargobikes for Businesses” initiative. Four of them selected our XCYC Allround model: Elektrizitätswerk Jona-Rapperswil, Drahtex, and Stiftung Balm in Rapperswil-Jona, along with Bossart+Kuhn in Flawil. They will be testing the bikes free of charge in their day-to-day operations for one full year.

The XCYC Allround: Our Most Versatile Cargo E-Bike
The XCYC Allround is our most versatile model, designed for retail, trade, and organizations with shifting transport needs. With a turning circle of just 340 cm (compared to 1,200 cm for a standard delivery van), it easily navigates narrow alleys and courtyards where a van would require multiple maneuvers. It can also haul trailers compliant with DIN 15918.

What a year of field testing reveals
A brief test report can never match the insights gained from twelve months of actual daily use. Is the range sufficient for routine routes? How does the bike handle fully loaded? How seamlessly does it fit into existing workflows? That is precisely what these four partners are set to discover over the coming year.
Handover in Rapperswil-Jona: Three XCYC Allrounds Delivered to Local Partners
In our hometown of Rapperswil-Jona, six businesses received their new e-cargo bikes: Elsener Messerschmied, Drahtex, wellflamm Feuer Manufaktur, Farbe Helbling, Elektrizitätswerk Jona-Rapperswil, and Stiftung Balm.
Three of them, Elektrizitätswerk, Drahtex, and Stiftung Balm, opted for the XCYC Allround.
Attending the official handover outside Town Hall were City Councilor Christian Leutenegger, Fabian Ruoss (Head of Climate and Energy for Rapperswil-Jona), and Fabienne Lovece from clevermobil.

Participating businesses in Flawil also picked up their custom-branded e-cargo bikes to start their trial year.
Among them, Bossart+Kuhn is putting the XCYC Allround to work in their daily routines.
Program Overview
Through this initiative, the cities of Rapperswil-Jona and Rorschach, together with the municipalities of Flawil and Wittenbach, are actively driving sustainable, forward-looking mobility. The program was spearheaded by clevermobil, a shared mobility platform serving several regions across the Canton of St. Gallen. The Canton is also backing the project as a pilot and demonstration showcase under its regional energy framework.
All 24 participating businesses get to integrate an e-cargo bike into their daily routines for a full year at no cost. The goal is to replace short car and van trips and determine where e-cargo bikes offer the highest operational and economic efficiency. The call for applications in April was a resounding success, with all 24 spots claimed almost instantly.

What Happens After 12 Months?
Once the pilot year concludes, participating businesses decide their next steps with zero pressure and no obligation:
A Proven Concept from St. Gallen and Wil
This model has already demonstrated strong success across the Canton of St. Gallen. Since 2021, initiatives in St. Gallen (3 rounds) and Wil (1 round) gave 42 companies the chance to test e-cargo bikes. The vast majority chose to keep them: 20 out of 32 in St. Gallen and 8 out of 10 in Wil purchased their vehicles and continue to use them today.
Building on those results, Flawil, Rapperswil-Jona, Rorschach, and Wittenbach are now expanding the concept across the broader region. clevermobil will analyze participant feedback to pinpoint which routes benefit most from e-cargo bikes, how smoothly they integrate into operational routines, and where they generate clear financial value.
